Namaskar dosto! Welcome back to Baatcheet & Short Stories with Roshni.
In Episode 8 of Mahatma Gandhi's autobiography, "An Autobiography: The Story of My Experiments with Truth" , we cover a turning point that changed the course of Gandhi's life forever: "Pehla Aaghaat" (The First Shock).
After failing to establish a practice in Bombay, Gandhi returns to Rajkot. To help his brother, he reluctantly goes to meet a British Political Agent whom he had known in England. Expecting a friendly reception, young Gandhi is instead met with cold, imperial arrogance. The officer refuses to listen, insults Gandhi, and has his peon physically show him the door.
This humiliating encounter was Gandhi's first direct taste of colonial oppression—a "shock" that shattered his naive belief in British justice and lit the fire of political consciousness.
